ORIGIN: The cultivar originated at Whian Whian. Applicant: Judy Viola
DESCRIPTION: Tall shrub or small tree to a maximum of 2-3 metres high by 2 – 2.5 metres wide with a sparse open appearance. Axillary spines solitary, straight to 25mm long. Leaves are simple, obovate to elliptic, glabrous. Flowers white approximately 10-15mm in diameter. Flowering period July – August. Fruit a cylindrical berry, 40-80mms long, 15-25mm in diameter, dark green to brown, flesh/vescicles red/pink, 2-3mm in diameter.
Note: the flesh/vescicles becomes darker when exposed to air for several hours.
DIAGNOSIS: C. australasica ‘Jali Red’is an open shrub with a distinctive red/pink flesh.

CULTIVATION: The plant has recently been grafted onto rootstock at the applicants nursery. Resistant most citrus pests and diseases and is moderately frost hardy.
