Räeder-Roitzsch, Jürgen Ernst   (fl.1950s)

Born ?, died ?.

He was a member of the Scientifioc Services Division (incl.Soil Conservation) element within the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Authority (SMHEA) in the first Snowy I scheme.

He was a colleage of Dr Betty Phillips, and the two of them would have worked to Dr Max Mueller in the early 1950s.

In 1958 Raeder-Roitzsch and Phillips jointly produced:
'An erosion and siltation survey in the Upper Tooma catchment'
published by the Snowy Mountains Authority as 'Report No. S.S. 13', Cooma.

In an oral history project, Lindsay Pryor said, in reference to 'Pryor's Hut' in the Brindabella Ranges:

". . . about the Scotts Pine arboretum adjacent to the hut, planted either in or contiguous to the old horse paddock . . . The pines were planted [by Lindsay] as a trial on behalf of Dr Jurgen Raeder-Roitzsch and Dr Marie Phillips who were working for the Snowy Mountains Authority on erosion control work."

". . . Districts of six West African countries lack not only food and water but are desperately short of wood for cooking, building and heating, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation said yesterday.

Dr Jürgen Raeder Roitzsch, a German forestry expert working for FAO who recently returned from the area said there was a tragic relation ship between the zone's deforestation and the drought and shortage of crop and pasture land.

In a statement issued yesterday, Dr Raeder Roitzsch said, "If these regions had not been deforested by over-grazing and systematic pillage of vegetation, they certainly would have resisted the present drought better. . .".
