Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids

Flowering time

The flowering period of orchids is closely tied in with the seasons. Most species flower during periods of increasing day length (spring) but a significant number flower during periods of decreasing day length. Some species seem to be day length neutral and are influenced by external factors such as barometric changes or sudden change in temperature following heavy rain. Many tropical species are strongly influenced by the climatic conditions that occur during the wet season.
