Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids

Fruit orientation

The fruit can be oriented on the flower stem in one of three ways; erect, porrect or pendulous. It should be noted that many orchids which have porrect or pendulous flowers can have erect capsules.

Erect: the fruit is held in an upright position.

Porrect: the fruit projects from the flower stem more or less horizontally.

Pendulous: the fruit are pendulous or hang freely.
