Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids

Lateral sepal attached to column foot

In some orchids the column has a basal extension known as the column foot. It can continue in the same line as the column, be projected at right angles to the column and be straight or curved.  In some orchids the bases of the lateral sepals are joined to the margins of the column foot.  In other orchids the bases of the lateral sepals are fused  to the underside of  the column foot. Both conditions count as present for this character.
